Sentencing proceedings are underway in the theft case of a Grahamstown woman who was found guilty of stealing more than a million rand from her employer.
Louise Bowker pleaded guilty to stealing R1.4 million from the Grahamstown Veterinary Clinic between 2009 and 2010.
According to the state, Bowker used the funds for her own personal use as well as for the purchase of horses.
During court proceedings on Tuesday, the defence council called psychologist Joan Campbell to testify in mitigation of sentence.
Campbell told the court that it would be devastating for Bowkers' two young children if she were to be incarcerated and that a non-custodial sentence would be more appropriate.
The case will continue on Wednesday when the owner of the clinic, Phillip Gilfillan, will testify in aggravation of sentence.
