Sentencing proceedings for convicted wife murderer Christopher Panayiotou are expected to get underway in the Port Elizabeth High Court on Friday.
On November 2, Judge Dayalin Chetty convicted Panayiotou for the April 2015, murder of his school teacher wife Jayde. It was Panayiotou’s 31st birthday.
Hitman Sinethemba Nenembe was convicted on a charge of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances while co-conspirator Zolani Sibeko was found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder.
The remaining counts of conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition and defeating the ends of justice fell away. He was visibly flushed and red in the face as judgement was handed down.
Jayde Panayiotou’s body was found a day after she was kidnapped in Kabega Park in April 2015.
Jayde’s family including Father Derrick, Michelle and Toni Inggs, as well as a sea of “Justice For Jayde” supporters were overcome with emotion and embraced one another following the guilty verdicts. They clapped their hands in celebration.
Panayiotou’s family members were seen crying and dropped their heads as the businessman was sent down to the cells.
