A 50-year-old man from Sedgefield is expected to appear in the Knysna Magistrates court on Tuesday after allegedly killing a woman in his neighbourhood with a hammer.
Police Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says the 67-year-old Lorna Hampson's body was discovered on Saturday night on the sidewalk in front of her house in Marigold Street.
He says she was covered in blood and already succumbed to her injuries.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
The motive for the murder is still under investigation.
Pojie says the suspect was arrested shortly after the murder and will also be charged with malicious damage to property after he damaged the vehicles of members of the public who first responded to the scene.
