Miss Universe’s hometown, the Garden Route town of Sedgefield, is pulling out all the stops to give her a fantastic homecoming welcome on Sunday, 28 January.
Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters will be honoured with a street parade by the people who have supported her through her incredible journey to the Miss Universe crown.
The parade will start at 3pm on the Sedgefield Primary School sport field from Parakiet Rd and continue down the Main Service Road which runs parallel to the N2, all the way to Vink Avenue where it will turn left and loop back via Flamingo Avenue and Kingfisher Drive to the Main Service Road and back to the field.
Numerous VIPs and dignitaries will participate in the parade including the mayors of Greater Knysna and George, and Demi-Leigh’s parents and grandparents. Floats, dancers, bands, local schoolchildren, Harley Davidson bikers, the Knysna Fire Department and Working with Fire, local NGOs, Sedgefield Animal Matters, tourism activities and Knysna Tourism will all participate in the parade to ensure a festive, carnival atmosphere.
Members of the public are encouraged to line the streets of the route and help give Demi-Leigh a rousing welcome home.
Back at the field, Demi-Leigh will hand out signed pictures of herself and pose for pictures with the public until 6pm.
Entertainment on the field after the parade will be provided by singer Shaza Greeff, two DJs, the Smutsville Brass Band, and the Smutsville Church choir. There will be food and refreshment stalls from 3pm.
