A second suspect appeared in court on Friday in connection with the murder of the 86-year-old Ann Smit from Port Elizabeth.
The 27-year-old Sizwe Jika was arrested in September but made a daring escape through a window at the Walmer police station where his fingerprints linked him to the crime.
Jika was re-arrested in Aliwal North on Wednesday.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says he was charged today with murder, robbery and escaping from lawful custody.
He will be back in court on Monday where additional charges will be added.
Naidu says his prints also connected him to seven housebreakings.
Smit was attacked with a hammer in her home in Kamma Park in May.
She died a month later from her injuries.
