Transnet says a second striking worker has been arrested in connection with a spate of arson attacks on the homes of non-striking Ngqura Container Terminal workers.
The state-owned company said in a statement on Friday that this is the second arrest in as many days, as Transnet piles on the pressure on those responsible for petrol-bomb attacks, arson, intimidation and torching of cars of non-striking workers.
Transnet says its confident that the police are close to rounding up all the perpetrators.
The strike by Numsa members at the Ngqura Container Terminal is into its eight week and according to Transnet has had minimal impact on the container terminal.
Transnet says over the past few days a large number of striking employees have abandoned Numsa's strike, heeding the company's call to return to work.
Meanwhile, another striking worker arrested this week and appeared in court on Friday and was remanded in custody until the next court appearance.
