A police Colonel attached to the Serious Corruption Investigation unit at the Hawks was shot dead inside her home in Table View in Cape Town on Sunday night.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase says the 47-year-old Colonel Huitbrecht Christina Stemmet died from two gunshot wounds.
She described Stemmet as a dedicated and seasoned officer.
The circumstances around her death is not yet known but police, at this stage, have ruled out any links to ongoing investigations that she was busy with.
Nkwalase says at this point an inquest docket has been opened.
