The search for a 15-year-old teenager who disappeared in the ocean while wading into the surf at Wells Estate Beach is expected to resume on Friday.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says the Gqeberha duty crew were activated on Thursday afternoon, just after 5 pm, following reports of a drowning-in-progress.
He says the sea rescue craft Spirit of Surfski 4 was launched.
Lambinon says the NSRI rescue vehicle, Coastal Water Rescue and the SA Police Services also responded and joined metro lifeguards searching for the teenager but he was not found.
Police divers will assist the NSRI in continuing with their search.
The name of the missing teenager is not known.
