The National Sea Rescue Institute at Mossel Bay was called in to action early this morning.
That's after a crewman on board a fishing vessel was injured when he was struck by a hydraulic winch, which according to the skipper flew loose after the pin snapped.
A NSRI Mossel Bay volunteer duty crew was dispatched to the vessel along with a paramedic who stabilised the seriously injured fisherman.
The 31 year old man from Saldanha Bay sustained multiple injuries.
He was brought to shore and transferred to hospital for treatment.
