Eastern Cape police have arrested a 16-year-old school boy after finding a pistol and ammunition in his school bag.
Police spokesperson, major Ernest Sigobe, says they were acting on a tip off that children at Jongintaba Senior Secondary School near Mthatha were in posession of dangerous weapons.
He says the teenager was released into the custody of his parents in accordance with the Child Justice Act and will appear in the Bityi Periodical Court soon.
Sigobe says the firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to see if it had been used in the commission of a crime.
