The South African Police Service will be bolstering its numbers in Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape following two fatal shootings on Thursday.
Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, has instructed that “additional manpower” be deployed in an attempt to “curb these senseless killings.”
His order followed the murder of a 26-year-old man, who was shot dead in broad daylight while standing on the corner of Lanner Crescent and Kamesh Road in Rosedale at around noon.
Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said that he sustained gunshot wounds to the chest.
Police are hunting for two gunmen in this case.
In a separate incident just over two hours later, she said that a 21-year-old man was shot and killed in Spekboom Street in Thomas Gamble, also by two gunmen.
“The motive for the murder is not clear at this stage and detectives are following up on several leads. The name of the victim will be released after formal identification was completed,” Swart said.
She could not say if the same shooters were involved in both incidents, but said police were investigating all possibilities.
Swart said they were also encouraging the community to work with them to stamp out crime while appealing for information that will lead to the arrest of those involved in the two shootings.
“Anyone who has any information about the shooting incident/s of today can contact SAPS Kamesh on 041 9888718/19,” she said.
