The South African Police Service is investigating a case of theft in connection with the alleged National Student Financial Aid Scheme over- payment to a student of the Walter Sisulu University.
The student, Sibongile Mani, made headlines, when she spent more than R800, 000 after an administrative error saw her receive R14-million for food and book allowances.
Mani was supposed to receive her monthly R1 400 allocation, which is loaded on an Intellicard to be used for meals.
Mills said Intellimali officials laid a charge of theft at the Berlin police station, near East London, on Tuesday.
"The case has been assigned to a seasoned investigator and the standard investigative procedures will now be followed," Mills said.
