A sangoma who allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl has been granted bail after appearing in court in Kwanobuhle, Uitenhage, on Monday.
The 32-year-old sangoma allegedly raped the teenager after the child's mother took her to him for treatment for an apparent witchcraft-related ailment.
Police spokesperson, lieutenant-colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the sangoma was granted conditional bail of R1000.
"He is to report to Kwanobuhle police station every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday between 08:00 and 18:00. He may not interfere with the victim, her family or any of the witnesses," she said.
The sangoma will be back in court again on the June 6.
