The South African National Defence Force has issued a warning the public about a recruitment scam targeting the Eastern Cape and neighbouring Western Cape.
SANDF spokesperson, Brigadier General Mafi Mgobozi, said in a statement on Friday that “a group or a syndicate” has been posing as a recruitment agency of the SANDF in the two provinces.
General Mgobozi says the SANDF engages in its own recruitment process and does not charge any money for this.
“The SANDF advertises its application forms annually on national newspapers as well as on its websites,” he said.
“Members of the public are encouraged to report any person or persons who demand money from them with the promise of employment into the SANDF to their nearest police stations or SANDF units or bases.”
General Mgobozi said that the recruiters have been active in mainly coloured communities in Port Elizabeth and elsewhere.
