SAMWU members plan march to City Hall


The South African Municipal Workers' Union has warned that several municipal services in Buffalo City will be affected on Wednesday due to a planned march to the East London City Hall.

SAMWU Regional Secretary, Zolani Ndlela, said thousands of municipal employees will hand over a memorandum of demands.

He said the removal of an electronic attendance control system, costing the municipality millions of rands , payment of risk allowances and payment of scarce skills are among the eight demands stipulated in the memorandum.

"The staff in Buffalo City that are about 5500, members of SAMWU are 3 638 plus temporary employees  including EPWP workers they be embarking on a serious march tomorrow almost all departments will be affected because all of us we are members of SAMWU. We have to be there in the march because the decision was taken yesterday in our general meeting" he said.

The march is expected to start at the North End stadium at 11:30 am.
