Hundreds of Buffalo City metro municipal workers gathered at the Orient theater, in East London on Tuesday as part of their ongoing strike.
Samwu provincial secretary, Siphiwo Ndunyana, says they refuse to accept that the Buffalo City metro cannot accede to their demand for a 14th cheque.
He also accused the SA Local Government Association, which he says has the power to rule on the matter, of being inconsistent.
Ndunyana says SALGA is the body that did the job evaluation that revealed that workers had been underpaid and should therefore approve the payments.
He also says its important for people to know that the 14th cheque will be a once-off payment and not an annual payment.
Meanwhile DA Eastern Cape leader, Atholl Trollip, and other party members will get their hands dirty in Buffalo City on Wednesday.
Trollip will lead Buffalo City constituency leader, Stuart Farrow and Amathole constituency director, Nosimo Balindlela, in a clean-up of parts of the East London CBD.
The party says this initiative was brought on by the excessive amount of garbage that has been strewn around the city during the SAMWU protest in East London.
Uncollected refuse has been scattered around the city and surrounding suburbs for almost two weeks as Buffalo Metro municipal workers continue their strike in demand of a 14th cheque.
