The Labour Court has struck the SA Municipal Workers Union's urgent interdict application against the Kouga Municipality to reinstate suspended shop stewards off the roll.
Kouga Mayor, Horatio Hendricks says SAMWU applied for an urgent interdict against the municipality after 14 shop stewards, who initiated an illegal and unlawful strike from 9 to 16 March and organised several protest actions afterwards, were suspended and charged with gross misconduct.
He says they were suspended after the strike, and the union demanded that they be reinstated with immediate effect.
Hendricks says they were found guilty of misconduct after an internal disciplinary process and were given 10 days to submit reasons why they should not be dismissed.
The matter was struck off the roll in Gqeberha on Friday and SAMWU was ordered to pay the municipality's legal costs.
