Police in the Mount Road cluster would like to warn the community to take heed of the following proactive hints during this festive period and avoid becoming a victim.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said when exiting the bank, after a withdrawal, take note of people walking close to you.
During this week, a person was robbed by two men after leaving the bank and the complainant recognised one of the suspect’s that was in the bank.
She further explained, “Businesses or individuals intending to make large withdrawals should make prior arrangements with the bank so as to avoid the queues and people listening to your conversation with the teller. Always conceal the money before leaving.”
She added, “Con artists live off swindling and robbing people of their money or valuables. Once again, police is appealing to people not to make deals with prospective ‘buyers’.”
Police are investigating several cases whereby vehicle owners try selling their vehicles to unknown and very ‘interested’ people.
Never make deals with these people on their terms.
Naidu also advised, “Owners of firearms are reminded to renew their licences at least 90 days before they expire.”
She went on to say that the purpose of renewing a firearm licence or permit is to determine if a person still complies with the provisions of the Firearms Control Act,2000(Act 60 of 2000) and the Firearms Control regulations,2004 in order to ensure effective control and responsible firearm and ammunition ownership.
For further information, inquiries may be made at their nearest police station.
The South African Police Service is committed in ensuring that all people within the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan ARE and FEEL safe during this festive season.
However, this can only be achieved if individuals and communities cooperate with the police in safeguarding their personal belongings.
