The Civil Aviation Authority has expressed its condolences to the families of three of its members killed in a plane crash near Mossel Bay on Thursday.
Its the first incident of its kind involving a Civil Aviation Authority aircraft, according to CAA director Poppy Khoza.
The aircraft, which belongs to the Authority, left George Airport around 10 AM on Thursday on a flight calibration mission involving the airport's navigational equipment.
Contact with the aircraft was lost shortly afterwards.
Rescue crews using an AMS helicopter reached the crash site in a mountainous area outside Mossel Bay earlier on Friday morning to retrieve the bodies.
The victims were identified as 49-year-old Captain Thabiso Tolo, 1st Officer, 33-year-old Tebogo Caroline Lekalakala and the 36-year-old Flight Inspector Gugu Comfort Mnguni.
