The SA Banking Risk Information Centre says its encouraged by the downward trend in crime statistics as they related to the banking and cash in transit sectors.
Sabric CEO, Kalyani Pillay, says however that a lot more still needs to be done.
She commended law enforcement agencies for their efforts in collaborating with the banks, CIT companies and other industry role players in ensuring a safe and secure banking environment.
This week, Sabric launched an initiative to urge the public to take precautions when withdrawing or depositing large sums of cash at their banks.
Statistics indicated a 53% increase in the number of cases in the Eastern Cape.
