The Eastern Cape Development Corporation is pumping a million rand from its own budget towards the construction of South Africa’s first green hotel at Elliotdale in the former Transkei.
The Corporation says the 100-room Nkanya Lodge will cost R50m to build and will be the first of its kind where the energy generated will be entirely from green sources such as wind and solar.
The National Empowerment Fund has committed R25m to the project and the Industrial Development Corporation has been approached to fund the balance.
