Firefighters in the Chris Hani District Municipality had their hands full containing a runaway fire along the Lukanji and Lonhill mountains around Komani.
The CHDM said it despatched fire and rescue services teams as the blaze spread towards Bonkolo dam on Tuesday.
Additional resources were also brought in from local municipalities across the district municipality with local volunteers also joining in.
No reports were received of damages or any losses thus far, as windy conditions made the firefighting efforts difficult.
Communities have been urged to be more vigilant during this fire season and not to start unnecessary fires.
