A total of 875 000 containers have been handled at the Port of Ngqura since it was commissioned in October 2009.
Government’s Mid-Term Review re-leased this morning states that this was achieved at the two berths that were initially constructed.
The Mid-Term Review states that the commissioning of the two additional berths will allow the total number of containers handled to be pushed to 800 000 per year.
It states that Transnet has now started with the next phase of the project that will see capacity expanded to 1.5 million containers a year.
This will be achieved through acquisition of container handling equipment.
