A Rhodes University student has handed himself over to police following a hit-and-run accident in the early hours of Saturday morning in which a fellow student was killed.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, says the student was accompanied by a parent when he presented himself to police on Saturday.
She says he was not arrested but will be meeting with the investigating officer on Monday.
He is believed to be from Durban.
Meanwhile, the accident victim has been identified as 20-year-old Khanya Ndimba, from Fernglen in Port Elizabeth.
She and a friend were on their way to a shop after a night of studying when she was hit by the car.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide and leaving the scene of a crime.
