Residents on the outskirts of Knysna who rushed to the scene of an accident on Wednesday morning, got more than they bargained for.
A South African Breweries truck transporting hundreds of crates of Castle Lager bottles hit the barrier along the N2 just before Knysna at about 8.30am. About half of the crates ended up on the side of the road.
Residents risked injury as shattered glass was strewn across the road, searching for bottles that did not break during the accident.
By the time authorities arrived several crates and bottles of beer had disappeared into the surrounding townships.
