Residents of Walmer Township in Port Elizabeth embarked on a second straight day of service delivery protests on Wednesday morning.
Police Captain Stanley Jarvis said more than 200 residents began burning tyres before sunrise and Victoria Drive and Buffelsfontein Road between 5th and 9th avenues are currently closed to traffic.
There is a strong police presence in the area.
A community leader told Algoafm news that they would continue with their protests until they are presented with a concrete plan of action to address their grievances.
He did not condone violence which has accompanied the protest action.
