Nelson Mandela Bay Metro
The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) in the Nelson Mandela Bay is calling for additional payment for scarce skills and a Covid-19 danger allowance.
These are amongst a list of demands put forward by the Union, as workers across the metro took to the street in a strike on Tuesday.
Refuse removal trucks were amongst the services that remained idle.
SAMWU Regional Secretary, Melikaya Kortjan, says the employer could have negotiated the danger allowance when the State of Disaster was first announced to avoid the strike.
He says the meeting between unions and Corporate Services earlier brought no resolution and the strike will therefore continue.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality urged residents to keep their refuse out of the streets until further notice.
