Buffalo City Metro's efforts for a cleaner city have been dealt a huge blow as its recycling containers have been stolen.
Metro spokesperson Thandi Matebese says the solid waste department placed 5 shipping containers that were converted to recycling drop off points in strategic areas around East London.
The recycling containers each cost over R30 000.
Two of the containers placed in Greenfields and zone17 in Mdantsane have been reported stolen.
Matabese says it is alleged that the recycling container in Mdantsane was taken by a private truck driver.
Buffalo city requests anyone with information about the containers to contact Solid Waste Department.
