The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says while it is grateful for the recent rain that has fallen, it has not made any significant impact on the dam levels.
It says the average dam levels from 10 to 17 July 2020 virtually remained the same, which means that the water that ran into the dams over this period was consumed during the same period.
Kareedouw, upstream of the Churchill Dam, measured about 45 mm of rain and about 50 mm was measured at the Impofu Dam, but this has not made a significant impact on the average dam levels.
For this to have an impact on the dam levels consistent follow-up rain is critical.
The Municipality says the South African Weather Service has predicted average rainfall for the next few months and will only be sufficient for gardens, to fill pools and ponds and rainwater tanks.
On Friday, the total dam levels were at 17.97%.
The City would once again like to call on residents to:
• Stick to 50 litres per person per day.
• Reuse the shower and bath water to flush the toilet.
• Use the washing machine water or water used to hand wash clothes to water the garden, wash cars or fill up the swimming pool.
