Rape survivor Alison Botha determined to make a full recovery

Gqeberha rape survivor, Alison Botha on Tuesday said though she is nervous for the road ahead, she is determined to make a full recovery.

For the first time since being hospitalised just over a month ago, Alison, 57, personally gave an update on her recovery.

South Africans were devastated to learn that Alison suffered a brain aneurysm when news of her medical setback was made public.

In a Facebook post Alison shared that she was still in hospital and starting the long journey of rehabilitation.

"I can use my right arm, but unfortunately cannot sit up independently, stand or walk.

"At least my sight has improved! My only brother Neale has been reduced from 9 to 3 versions of him."

Alison lightheartedly asked if her "new haircut" gets. the nod of approval.

She said Neale and her friends in legal fraternity Hannelie and Tania gave her the cut, but that they should rather stick to their day jobs.

"You can all vote on that later," she said jokingly.

According to Alison, she is still a bit shocked.

"I am still nervous, and still worried about the journey ahead, but I am a fighter as so many of you have reminded me.

"I have been through worse, and very determined to make a full recovery."

Alison thanked the many "selfless" people who made it possible for her to soon be transferred to a specialist rehabilitation centre, due to their generosity.

"I am thinking about you all and ask you to continue keeping me in your thoughts."

Alison made national headlines in 1994 when she was raped, disemboweled, stabbed multiple times and nearly decapitated.

She was left for dead near Schoenmakerskop and crawled to the main road where a good samaritan came to her aid.

Her attackers Frans Du Toit and Theuns Kruger were released on parole last year.
