Rape charge investigated against Mossel Bay policeman

A case of rape is being investigated after a woman claimed that she had been raped by a Mossel Bay policeman.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating a case of rape after a 35-year-old woman reported that she was raped by a police officer over the past weekend.

The suspect was allegedly sleeping in a room at the police station, when the police officer on duty raped her.

The alleged rape happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.

No arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, police in the Humansdorp Cluster have made more than 81 arrests over the past weekend.

These were for crimes ranging from murder, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, to burglary and the illegal possession of drugs.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Gerda Swart, says the operations were conducted from Friday night to early this morning.

The suspects will appear in court this week.
