Police at Willowvale in the Eastern Cape have re-arrested a rape suspect who escaped from custody at lunch time on Saturday.
Captain Kaya Tonjeni says 28-year-old Ntando Zenzile was re-arrested at Bikane locality in Willowvale on Monday night.
He'd escaped along with another awaiting trial prisoner, Sinalo Ndabeni, who had been charged with common assault.
They'd managed to escape while police were bringing them their meal, despite both being handcuffed.
Ndabeni was re-arrested shortly after the escape.
Captain Tonjeni said an internal probe into how the awaiting trial prisoners had escaped would be established.
A case of escaping from lawful custody has been opened against the two men.
A second case of aiding an escapee has been opened against the members who were in charge of looking after the prisoners.
