Three suspects were arrested by Gqeberha police for kidnapping a delivery driver and trying to extort money from his employer.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the driver was accosted on Thursday morning by three gunmen in Commercial Road and bundled into another vehicle.
He was taken to an unknown location where the suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and stock from the vehicle.
Naidu says after they tried to extort a ransom payment for his safety, the man's employer contacted Kabega Park station commander, Colonel Tony Nomdoe who then shared the information to other law enforcement agencies.
Naidu said a deal was struck with the suspects to meet with the driver’s employee at a mall in Algoa Park where they corned the unalarmed suspects.
“As the suspect got into a vehicle, detectives closed in on him. The suspect got out and jumped into another vehicle which was cornered by SAPS Kabega Park members,” she said.
The suspects between the ages of 20 and 30 years old were arrested however the large sum of money and stock were not recovered.
