Eastern Cape police said that protesting Fort Hare University who ransacked two bookstores on the Alice campus this week, stole goods valued at nearly R2m.
Police spokesperson, Captain Siya Nontshinga, said a burglary case was opened following the violent protest in Alice on Tuesday.
"It is alleged that they stole all the stock that was inside, amongst other things were laptops, tablets, stationery and other kitchen utensils," said Nontshinga.
"The value of the stolen things is estimated at R1.974.595.25," she added.
No arrests have been made
The student protest this week reportedly related to complaints about water, fees and NSFAS.
