Quick action by a Gelvandale detective led to the speedy arrest of a man who allegedly shot the driver of a car on the Standford Road bridge on Friday.
Police spokesperson, captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says the detective was at the traffic lights on the bridge when he heard several shots.
She says he identified himself as a policeman at which point the suspected shooter jumped into a VW Polo with other occupants and fled.
Janse Van Rensburg says the policeman pursued the fleeing car and when the suspect jumped out and ran down Newbolt Street in Neave Township, the policeman managed to arrest him and recover a fire-arm.
The wounded victim has been admitted to hospital while the alleged shooter will appear in court on Monday.
