Queenstown robbery suspect shot dead by police

 A policeman has shot dead a man who attacked him in New Rest township in Queenstown.

Police spokesperson, Xola Jozana, says police went to the 29-year-old man's house last night to follow up on a claim that he had stolen machinery from a business,

Jozana says when police ordered the man to come outside he allegedly tried to stab a policeman with a sharp object.

He was then fatally wounded by a policeman.

Jozana says an inquest docket has been opened.
