Eastern Cape Local Government MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, has confirmed receiving a grievance letter from Nelson Mandela Bay city manager, Dr Lindiwe Msengana-Ndelala.
"I've officially received the grievance lodged with my office by the city manager of Nelson Mandela Metro with a number of allegations leveled against the respondent, in this case the honourable executive mayor of Nelson Mandela Metro as well as the deputy," he told Algoa FM News.
He said in the letter Dr Msengana-Ndlela alleges "gross interference" in the administration in the Municipality with on "issues of appointment which may border (in) unauthorised and wasteful expenditure on issues of supply chain ..."
Qoboshiyane said he will be meeting the city leadership next week to try and resolve the gap between the newly appointed executive mayor and city manager who is barely three months into the post which had been vacant for several years.
"Certainly I must indicate that this development is not only a shame to the community but is also stigmatising a new challenge for the Metro once again. The past three years that we have experienced nobody would think it must be repeated during this period but we are going to take this matter up on its own merits and be objective in its analysis and we hope that this matter will be a closed chapter as soon as possible."
Qoboshiyane said "this is a matter of grave concern" for him, adding that when the city manager was appointed and the new political leadership took over after the ousing of former mayor Zanoxolo Wayile, there would be stability in Nelson Mandela Bay.
"... our expectations were that they are going to come together, develop terms of reference, adopt common approaches on issues and start from a clean slate and develop trust and relationships amongst themselves so that they can pursue the agenda of development of the area of Nelson Mandela Bay from an informed position," said Qoboshiyane.
