Public Service Commission hosts stakeholder event in EL

The Public Service Commission will host a stakeholder event in East London this week as part of its centenary celebrations.

Eastern Cape commissioner, Singata Mafanya, says their key message to stakeholders, which include government departments, chapter nine institutions among others, is that the PSC is there for everybody.

He says the main aim of the Public Service Commission is to ensure that service delivery takes place in the absence of corruption.

Mafanya's also urged officials and the public to report corruption so that action can be taken.

"We as the PSC do not take disciplinary action against those who are involved in corruption but after investigations we make reccomendations and we will submit our report to the executive authority who then have the power to take action against those who have been identified as being corrupt in the system"

Meanwhile, Mafanya says there are real challenges facing the work of the Commission once case have been investigated and recommendations made.

He says in some instances recommendations are not implemented.

"Given that when you conduct an investigation there are a lot of resources that you plant into that and at the end of the day recommendations are simply ignored in some cases. I am not saying that everybody does that but those who do make things difficult to others" he said.
