Two Provincial Traffic Officers, aged 32 and 33, have been arrested in Mthatha for bribery and corruption by the Organised Crime and Crime Intelligence members.
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci, says the two officers were arrested on Monday after they allegedly demanded money from a truck driver who they claimed had contravened traffic regulations.
The two are expected to appear in the Mthatha Magistrates Court soon on charges of bribery and corruption.
Eastern Cape SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Celiwe Binta commended the SAPS members for the arrests.
Binta said they want to send a strong message to all would-be offenders that no stone will be left unturned in fighting corruption in the Province at all levels.
She also appealed to communities to report any form of corruption that they come across.
