A prominent businessman will appear in the George Magistrate's Court on Monday for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend's five year-old-son.
Our correspondent Louise Karsten reports that it would be the suspect's third court appearance for allegedly beating the boy with a wooden spoon two months ago.
The Southern Cape Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie says that the father of the child noticed blue marks on the boy's buttocks during a weekend visit. The father told police that the marks were still visible a week later.
Pojie confirmed that the father took the child to a local doctor after which he laid a charge of assault at the George police station.
The name of the suspect is being withheld to protect the identity of the child.
