Private game reserve in Garden Route welcomes 100kg baby

A private game reserve in Little Brak River in the Garden Route is a baby elephant richer. The Botlierskop Private Game Reserve has been home to an elephant family that was rescued from Zimbabwe 11 years ago.

The family includes the 36- year old male elephant bull, Sam, the 31-year old elephant cow, Tsotsi and the 7-year old Chima. Little Chima now has a baby sister called Thambile which means soft and nurtured.

Little Thambile was still a bit unsure on her feet on Wednesday morning but she didn't hesitate to drink from her mother. She weighs almost 100kg and is 90cm tall. The elephants were taken out early morning to graze and little Thambile already started discovery the world with her small trunk.

The community is excited and relieved that the new Botlierskop baby is healthy and happy.
