Residents are kindly requested to note that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will be shutting down the Churchill pipelines, where they cross the Maitlands River, to undertake repair work necessitated by a leakage problem.A joint seal on the larger pipe failed, causing a visible leak on the western side of the pipe bridge. Although work will be carried out on only one of the two pipelines, the remaining one will not have the capacity to the supply the full water demand of the normal supply area. While the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is currently filling up all its reservoirs in preparation for the proposed shutdown, to prevent an interruption in water supply, it is imperative that all residents use water sparingly in the week ahead while repairs are being effected.
REPAIR PROGRAMME:
Tuesday, 23 August 2016: the pipe will be isolated and drained via scour valves.
Wednesday, 24 August 2016: the repair work will be executed and, once completed, the pipe will be commissioned.
Thursday, 25 August 2016: the supply should be back to normal; however, the reservoirs could take up to a week to fill up and stabilise.Once again, the Municipality appeals to our residents for their cooperation in using water sparingly in the days ahead, as the reservoirs could run low and cause interruptions and low pressure problems.
