Several beaches in Mossel Bay are temporarily closed due to a suspected oil spill.
Municipal spokesperson Cornelle Carstens says a sticky oil-like substance has been reported on beaches between Hartenbos and Bayview since Monday.
She says the municipality's department of environmental management has activated its coastal management and rehabilitation service provider to investigate the complaint.
Meanwhile, Hartenbos, Diaz, Santos, Kanon, Dana Bay and Little-Brak River's beaches have also been closed.
Carstens says blue flags will not be raised at any of the blue flag beaches in Mossel Bay until the beaches are safe for public use.
