Portia Sizani wants Makhanda High Court to review her case

The trial of convicted fraudster and former top education official Portia Sizani hit yet another snag at the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday.

This, after Magistrate Mputhumi Mpofu granted her defence council leave to appeal a ruling made by the court earlier this month.

Mpofu's ruling stated that the State need not furnish further details of her trial, in which she defrauded the Eastern Cape Education Department of 1.2 million rand, to her legal team.

He said, while Sizani's legal team believes she was convicted on gross irregularity, the court holds a completely different view, but the remand must be granted in the interest of justice.

Sizani's attorney, Johan Wessels is now expected to approach the Makhanda High Court, to review the case.

The trial was remanded to the 17th of March 2020.

Her bail of R5 000 has been extended.
