PORT ELIZABETH, October 26 (ANA) – A serial rapist who tormented a string of women will be sentenced in the Port Elizabeth High Court on Thursday.
Mzikayise Mkavu, 27, pleaded guilty to a string of charges which include 17 counts of rape, eight counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, one count of attempted murder, two counts of assault, three counts of attempted robbery and five counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Mkavu was convicted earlier this week. The charges against him date back to incidents between July 2008 and January 2016.
Fourteen women have been listed as rape survivors in the indictment. He was arrested shortly after his last offence in January 2016, and his DNA was positively linked to the incidents before court.
The indictment reveals that Mkavu acted like a ferocious predator targeting one woman after another. He would often target women who were alone, rob them for measly amounts of money, violently attack them before raping them.
In some incidents Mkavu would rape his victims multiple times.
