Police in Port Elizabeth are investigating the brutal murder of a woman in her twenties whose body was found in Motherwell yesterday.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the unknown woman's semi-naked body was found in a stormwater drain, in an open field, with her head covered in a plastic bag.
A passerby noticed the body near Xabana Street in NU5 and contacted police.
She says it is expected that the victim suffocated to death in what can only be described as heinous torture.
A post-mortem will be conducted to determine if the victim was also raped.
