A 36-year old attorney has been sentenced in the Port Elizabeth regional court to two years correctional supervision after he was found guilty of theft amounting to thousands of rands.
During November 2006 and January 2007, Thobela Qampi stole R40 000 from his client in a property transfer.
Magistrate Tobi Gerber sentenced Qampi to an additional 3 years imprisonment suspended for 4 years.
Gerber said the profession of an attorney played an important role in the administration of justice and that attorneys are held in high esteem.
He said the accused had betrayed the trust of his client and brought the profession into disrepute.
Qampi has also been ordered to undergo life skill programmes and will remain under house arrest for the duration of his sentence.
