It is not every day that a top cop in administrative position effects an arrest but Port Alfred Cluster Commander Brigadier Morgan Govender was in the field on Monday when he made the first drunk driving arrest in the town over the festive season.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender said that while the Brigadier was out on patrol a vehicle with three occupants overtook him on a barrier line on Bank Lane.
She said Brigadier Govender stopped the vehicle on Main Street and "on interviewing the driver he noticed that he was inebriated.”
The 26-year-old suspect was arrested and will be charged with drunk driving, reckless and negligent driving and driving without a valid drivers licence.
The suspect will appear in the Port Alfred Magistrates Court soon.
