Port Alfred police make big dagga bust

Members of Port Alfred's K-9 unit have arrested two people for being in possession of a large quantity of dagga.

Police spokesperson, captain Mali Govender, says the drugs have a street value of more than R4m.

She says the massive bust was made on the R-72 on Tuesday when police stopped an Iveco bus traveling from Mthatha towards Port Elizabeth.

"When they stopped the vehicle initially the driver did not want to open the vehicle to have it checked. However, members prompted them and when they opened the vehicle they discovered that it was filled with bags of dagga," she said.

Govender says in total there were 81 bags of dagga which were 50 kilograms each in size.

She says the two suspects are due to appear in court this week.
