A 41-year-old man will appear in the Port Alfred Magistrate's Court on Wednesday for allegedly being in possession of 230 units of perlemoen valued at R20 000.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Luvuyo Mjekula, says the man was arrested on Monday night at Kasouga beach near Port Alfred.
Two other suspects who were spotted on the beach with bags managed to evade arrest.
Mjekula says police seized equipment as well as a suspected stolen car.
He says the arrest was a result of a partnership between Port Alfred police, a local security company and officials from Environmental Affairs.
